Specialty sessions offer opportunities in many different subjects and grade levels. Each session is designed to enhance learning in a fun environment. After all, it’s summer! 
All camps are Co-ed!

  • ArtHaus: Amazing Assembled Sculptures

    Calling all young artists and treasure hunters! Join us for the most creative camp this side of the recycling bin! We'll turn trash into treasure, odds and ends into awesome art, and junk into joyful masterpieces. We’ll look to the art of Marcel Duchamp, Pablo Picasso, Robert Rauschenberg, and more for inspiration. Get ready to get messy with clay, paint, and more as we explore materials that will lead us to show our creativity in 3D! 
    All new lessons and all materials are provided. Campers will be divided into groups according to age.

  • ArtHaus: Rumble in the Jungle

    Join us for a wild and imaginative art adventure where we'll transform ordinary materials into extraordinary jungle creatures and scenes. Learn about different jungle animals, plants, and habitats, and then use your creativity to bring them to life. From the art of Henri Rousseau to the modern works of Marcos Chin & Wendy Anderson, we’ll connect to their bold and colorful work to inspire our own. Clay, paint, prints, and more will be at our fingertips to create wild works of art!

  • Brilliant Builders 

    Rising 1st - 3rd Grade

    Campers will use awesome technology tools such as LEGO®, Makey Makeys, Ozobots, Little Bits, Dash robots, and/or LEGO® Spike Prime Robotics to examine the design process to solve real-world problems. This camp explores a unique combination of great challenges that are fun for all budding engineers!

  • Busch Gardens Fun

    Join us for the thrill of a 5-day Busch Gardens adventure, including rides, shows, attractions, and a kids' area. Busch Gardens camp has amazing fun for everyone. The trip will include transportation to and from the park and lunch. Campers will be responsible for their own admission passes for all 5 days of the camp. A season pass starts as low as $118!

  • Digging for Fun Archaeology Camp

    Rising 4th - 7th Grade
    June 9 - 13

    Beyond the pages of history, our past can also be discovered by examining what people have left behind.  During our week of exploration and examination in archaeology camp, we will get our hands dirty identifying objects ranging from 80 to 8,000 years old.  After carefully handling actual spear points, we will attempt to manufacture our own stone tools using ancient techniques.  From studying soils and excavating to manufacturing and using ancient weapons, we will learn about the past with our hands and our minds.  Like Indiana Jones, along with your Fedora hat and bullwhip, bring your curiosity and good energy as you spend a week training in the techniques and methodologies of an archaeologist.

  • Driver's Education: Classroom Instruction

    Instructors will guide soon-to-be drivers through the classroom portion of driver’s education for five days in June. The class will include the Virginia Department of Education certified 11-module driver’s education curriculum. Attendance at all sessions is mandatory. The seven required behind-the-wheel sessions can be scheduled after the students complete the classroom course. (Behind-the-wheel scheduling and payment will be coordinated with RVA Driving Academy.)
    *Lunch for the week in the Ryan Dining Hall is an additional $25 fee offered during the registration process.

Designed for those new to music, students will experiment with various instruments and experience various music styles.     Boys and girls will each have their own keyboard during this camp as they learn to read, write, and play musical notes and symbols. They will build rhythm and note-reading skills, do ear training exercises, and receive individual coaching each day. It’s time to have fun exploring the wonderful sounds of the piano! There will be an informal recital on the final day of camp. (No experience necessary).

  • So You Think You Can Dance

    Inspired by the reality TV dance competition - Explore a variety of dance styles, including ballet basics, funky jazz, and contemporary with some acro, all in one class! Develop improved strength, flexibility, coordination, and agility. Students will be introduced to the discipline and structure of a typical “studio” dance class with the opportunity to show what they have learned in an informal performance at the end of the session.

All of course, while listening and dancing to her best music. Come on, Swifities, this is our chance to shake it off!

    Unleash your inner artist and create dazzling optical illusions with our exciting art camp. Learn about the science of perception and how to trick the eye with color, line, and shape. We’ll create mind-bending mandalas with optical illusions that make objects appear to move and change, visual vortexes with dazzling color and patterns sure to delight, and illusionary 3D landscapes to learn a new spin on perspective and depth. More ideas will be inspired by the art of MC Escher, Victor Vasarely, Octavio Ocampo, Bridget Riley, and more!

    Ever wonder how a building is designed or how a tree house fits in a tree? Learn how to design your own building by drawing 2D-floor plans and bring your creation to life through a one-point perspective drawing and 3D models. Campers will be invited to dive into the world of technology, where creativity meets coding.

  • Guitar Pro

    Rising 4th - 8th Graders

    Play like a pro with your peers and become a guitar champ! Campers will learn key concepts of the fundamentals of music, rhythm, and performance. Students will also be able to experiment with different types of guitars, electric guitar effects, and other gear key to live performance. Other topics covered include listening, accompaniment, music theory, and improvisation.

    Prerequisite: 2 years experience on guitar.
    Must bring your guitar (and amp if applicable)

  • Habitat Explorers

    Explore the wild world of animals and their habitats in Habitat Explorers! Campers will embark on hands-on adventures like creating dioramas of forests, oceans, and jungles, investigating animal tracks, and using magnifying glasses to examine things up close. A group of artists called The Fauves were called Wild Beasts for their unusual approach to color and self-expression. We, too, will become Fauves as we look to the art of Henri Matisse for our mixed-up paper mâché beasts. Our ceramic creatures will take flight with feathers or swim with glimmering scales.     This week will be a wild art adventure exploring inspirational artists who truly thought outside of the box! Nick Cave’s unusual, wearable sculptures made from various materials will connect campers with a new way of seeing clothing. We will explore textiles and found objects to create our own mini outfits for our wild and imaginary creatures. Alexander Calder’s unusual mobiles will inspire another wild project. Using wire and found objects, our campers will make their own colorful, and perhaps musical, mobiles. Large, colorful plant sculptures of pool tubes and other materials will honor Yayoi Kusama’s famously bold 3D works. In this fun and wacky week, campers will push boundaries to unleash their own untamed creativity! All new lessons and all materials will be provided.     During "Intro To Fourth Grade," campers will be introduced to fourth-grade concepts showcased in the coming school year. Academically, we will focus on reading, mathematics, and social-emotional skills. We will study the concepts of story elements, inferencing, summarizing, and predicting from nonfiction texts. During math, campers will dive into multiplication and division math facts, rounding, place value, word problems, adding and subtracting larger numbers, and multiplying using different strategies. Campers will also have opportunities to work together on their social skills as they complete hands-on activities for growth in communication and expression. Free time for outside or nonacademic indoor activities will also be included for campers. All materials will be provided.

Whether it's analyzing the book's tone, delving deep into character development, or recreating a favorite scene, each project will involve a creative and written component and show evidence of reading comprehension.

    Instructors will guide soon-to-be drivers through the classroom portion of driver’s education. The class will include the Virginia Department of Education certified 11-module driver’s education curriculum. Attendance at all sessions is mandatory. The seven required behind-the-wheel sessions can be scheduled after the students complete the classroom course. (Behind-the-wheel scheduling and payment will be coordinated with RVA Driving Academy.)
