Middle School

Built for Boys

Boys in Sixth Grade through Eighth Grade grow leaps and bounds mentally, physically and emotionally. At St. Christopher's we understand this, especially during these awkward, challenging and exciting years. Our faculty has many years' experience working with this age group, so we're ready to help navigate these years successfully.

At the heart of the Middle School experience is a schedule built around how boys learn best. Throughout the day, boys never have more than two academic classes in a row without having a recess or an active break in order to get them moving and improve their focus when they are in class.

Our curriculum is built to add layers of academic and character development as your son progresses through St. Christopher's. Every Middle School boy is a part of our Advisory Program, a group of 8-9 boys that meets bi-weekly. This close-knit group allows the boys to develop bonds with their faculty advisor and each other, and provides social support. In addition, we have several opportunities for character development and leadership through our Buddy programs, where Middle School boys can mentor younger students and connect with those in our Upper School.

Boys can participate in athletics, music, the arts, robotics, community service and more.

  • Active Bodies, Active Minds

Whether it's on the playing field or with the Robotics Team, boys in Middle School can choose from a variety of organizations that allows them to stretch their bodies and their minds. Sixth Graders go to recess five times a week for 45 minutes.

Seventh and Eighth Grade interscholastic athletic teams meet five days a week for 70 minutes a day. The Middle School fields 24 interscholastic teams in 13 sports. A Strength and Conditioning program is offered all three seasons for boys who don't participate in an interscholastic sport.
  • Becoming Men of Character

"On my honor, as a Gentleman," St. Christopher's introduces the Honor Code in Sixth Grade and then builds on social, emotional and spiritual growth that helps ready boys for the larger world around them. The boys sign the honor pledge and civility statement at the beginning of the year during chapel. This pledge symbolizes the community commitment to honor and civility. Boys then have programming throughout the year related to both topics. Boys sign an honor pledge on all work they submit during the year.
  • The Arts

Middle School gives boys a chance to work on two theatrical productions a year with the girls from St. Catherine's, through the joint drama club, Outré. Boys can also take part in our award-winning Boys' Choir, String Ensemble and Band.
  • The Community

Elective courses, team building programs and global thinking help to open boys' eyes and encourage exploration, leadership and curiosity. Boys take part in monthly service activities jointly with St. Catherine's "Saints in Service."
