Saints win BCCC

First time in tourney history.
The Benedictine Capital City Classic has been in existence for 58 years.

December 29, 2024 marks the first time that a St. Christopher's basketball team walked out of the tourney as champion, as the Saints knocked off the host Cadets 68-55 for the crown.

StC dropped John Carroll 76-64 in the first round. Darius Gray '26 put up 24 points, 13 rebounds, nine assists and two blocks in the win. Brady Burnette '27 (21 points), Elijah Brandon '26 (14), and Stuart Cosby '25 (12 points) did the other heavy lifting in the scoring column, as the trio buried four 3-pointers each.

The Saints then downed Steward in the semifinals 63-51, leading the game wire-to-wire. Gray put in 21 points with 10 rebounds. Brandon and Cosby (8 rebounds) had 15 points each, and Burnette netted nine.

In the title game, the Saints once again led from tipoff and Gray (23 points, 15 boards, 5 assists, 2 blocks) was special again. Brandon (5 assists) buried four 3-pointers en route to a 19-point effort, and Cosby dropped in 12 points. Gray was named MVP of the tourney, while Brandon and Cosby earned all-tourney efforts.

The Saints have captured two holiday titles in 2024, winning all five games by double digits, and now stand at 8-1 heading into 2025, ranked second in the Times-Dispatch Top 10.
