Varsity Soccer Takes Share of Menno Classic Championship

by Edison Pellumbi '25
On the weekend of September 20, varsity soccer traveled to Harrisonburg to play in the Eastern Mennonite Classic. They won both of their games before the final was canceled due to weather, moving their record to 4-1-2.

In the first game, they played John Paul The Great. Nobody could find much near the goal, and they went into penalties knotted at 0-0. Both teams converted the first three, then John Paul The Great sent the fourth wide, the Saints scored their fourth, then Ben Smith '25 saved the fifth from John Paul The Great to seal the 4-3 win in penalties.

In the second match, the Saints' attack looked entirely different. A goal by Cade Cox '26 in the second minute got them rolling, and additional goals by Jack Bleecher '25, Avi Gupta '25, and Lukas Gordinier '26 gave them a 5-0 win.

They were supposed to play Trinity Christian in the final, but rainstorms canceled the match.

Their next action is on Friday, September 27, when they take on Cape Henry at 4:30 pm at home.
