by Hil Butler '26
On Friday, September 6, the varsity football team hosted the Episcopal Maroon on Knowles Field, defeating them 34-14 for its first win of the season, improving their record to 1-1.

Offensively, the Saints dominated on both the rushing and passing game. QB Chase Roberts ‘27 completed 15 passes on 18 attempts, netting 103 yards and 2 touchdowns with no interceptions. Multiple running backs combined for 174 rushing yards, including Michael Farley Jr. ‘26, who had 71 rushing yards and a touchdown after just the first quarter. RB/LB Addison Gosline ‘25 had 45 rushing yards on just 6 attempts.

WR Isaac Lupica ‘25 had a standout performance, gaining 43 receiving yards on just 4 receptions, as well as a fumble recovery touchdown. RB Walker Turley ‘26 and TE Nate Roberts ‘26 both caught 1 touchdown pass.

The defense also put up an impressive performance, holding Episcopal scoreless in the first half. Linebacker Turley and cornerback Elisha Asare ‘26 each had 4 tackles, while LB MJ Crocker ‘26 and DL Darius Gray ‘26 each had 1 sack that led to a loss of more than 10 yards. Crocker also recorded a forced fumble.

The team showed control on passing defense, too, with DB Zach Davila ‘25, LB Lance Clelland ‘27, and LB Elijah Brandon ‘26 all recording one breakup.

Big contributions to the Saints 20-point win also came from the special teams, who opened the game by recovering their own kickoff and ended the game with 81 return yards, all from Farley. Meanwhile, punter Christian Rogers ‘25 made a statement with a 58-yard punt in the second quarter, as well as 3 made extra points and 2 made field goals with no misses.

Next week, the team will once again play under the lights of Knowles Field, hosting Norfolk Academy on Friday, September 13 at 6:30 pm, where they will attempt to improve their record to 2-1.
