Charlie Swanson '16 is set for the 2024 Paris Olympics July 27-28.
Swanson will compete for a gold medal in the 100-meter breaststroke. The preliminary heats will take place around 5 am eastern time on the USA Network on July 27, while the semis are set to take place around 3 pm on NBC. The final is set for 3:44 pm July 28, also on NBC.
Swanson placed second in the USA Olympic Trials in Indianapolis in comeback fashion to earn his bid, posting a career-best 59.16.
“Of course, every little kid says they want to be an Olympian. Of course it was a goal, but I never really considered it a possibility until the last few years,” Swanson said to the Times-Dispatch. "Even then, sometimes I was a little discouraged at points. If I made it, it would be a cool bonus. But the past few years have helped strengthen my mindset about certain things, know that I am capable of doing it.
"Thankfully, I was able to achieve that big goal. It’s pretty rewarding.”
