by Hil Butler '26
Friday, Nov. 1, the Saints varsity football team played their last match of the regular season and final home game, winniner 32-8 over the Collegiate Cougars in blowout fashion to secure a playoff spot and much needed momentum on their homecoming game.
The Saints’ offense had their best performance of the season, scoring 32 points with 191 rushing yards against the Cougars (3-6). 99 of those yards came from RB/LB Addison Gosline ‘25, who also posted 30 receiving yards and a rushing touchdown. Three other players, including RB/LB Walker Turley ‘26, RB Aiden White ‘27, and RB Michael Farley ‘26 ran for over 20 yards, and Turley and Farley each had one touchdown.
On top of three rushing touchdowns, QB Chase Roberts ‘26 connected with DB/WR Jayden Brown ‘25 on a 20-yard pass to put six more on the board early in the fourth quarter, and also took an 8-0 lead in the first with a two-point conversion with a pass to TE Nate Roberts ‘26.
The defense continued to impress, allowing no offensive points from the Cougars, who only managed to score on a safety and blocked punt return, and posted a total of 29 rushing yards and 81 passing yards.
OL/DL Darius Gray ‘26, DL Drew Pendlebury ‘26, and DB Elijah Asare ‘26 each sacked the Collegiate quarterback once, and the team as a whole had 5 TFLs. The Saints had 2 turnovers as well, with LB Lance Clelland ‘27 recovering a fumble and LB Elijah Brandon ‘26 returning an interception 54 yards.
After their victory on Friday, the Saints have broken even on the season with a 5-5 record, good enough for a spot in the VISAA tournament, where they will take on the 8-1 St. Michael the Archangel Warriors. That matchup will be held at Riverbend High School on Saturday, November 9 at 5 PM.
