On Tuesday, January 14, varsity basketball had their biggest matchup of the season to date when they welcomed St. Annes-Belfield to Scott Gym. STAB was the only team that gave StC consistent trouble last season, as four of their eight losses, including all three of their defeats in the Prep League, came at their hands.
The Saints offense struggled early. A low-scoring first quarter saw them trailing 12-11, but then a rough start to the second saw them down by as much as nine. They ended up going to the half trailing 25-17. Coming out of the locker rooms, the offense clicked. Darius Gray '26 began to take over the game, as the Saints outscored STAB 21-12 in the quarter to give themselves a 38-37 lead before the final quarter. Some tough baskets by Gray and Elijah Brandon '26 gave the Saints just enough offensively, and some crucial defensive plays at the end of the game by Collin Johnson '26 and Brady Burnette '27 helped the Saints cap a 61-50 win.
They have now won 10 games in a row, moving their record to 10-1 on the year and 2-0 in the Prep League. Their next action comes on Friday, January 17 when they travel to a tough road environment to take on Trinity at 7 PM.
