On Saturday, September 21, the mountain biking team ventured to the mountains to race at Stokesville Campground in Mt. Solon, Va. This 3.5-mile backcountry trail with flowy downhills and steep uphills with over 450 feet of climbing is always a fun challenge. When you throw 2 thunderstorms into the mix, it gets even more interesting. The sophomores completed 2 laps, junior and senior riders completed 3 laps, and Elite Varsity riders completed 4 laps.
William Sutten '26 finished in the top 20, despite dropping his chain twice during the race. He moves up to 19th overall in the Elite Varsity category.
In the JR/SR category, Ford White '26 left it all on the course and battled from the back of the pack to finish 26th, passing over 50 riders! He will move up to start 38th overall. Charles Herlihy '25 and Mitchell Gallagher '27 maintain their position for the next race.
Mountain biking will return to action Saturday, October 12 at Woodberry Forest. Sophomore wave starts at 1:45 pm, Jr/Sr girls at 3:00, and Jr/Sr + Elite Varsity boys at 4:20. This coincides with varsity football's game with the Tigers in Orange, so take the opportunity to support both groups if possible.
