week. The students will take a break in the middle
to stretch their legs outside and grab a snack before
heading back in for more games!

calculator. Students should have completed Pre-

Description: This course will cover the basics of
first-year Algebra: equations in one and two variables,
linear functions, slope, system of linear equations,
polynomials, exponents, quadratic functions,
simplifying square roots, factoring, and rational
expressions. The class is designed as fast-paced study,
intended for students who took Algebra 1 during
the 2011-2012 school year and who want to make
sure they have mastered the topics, or for students
eager to accelerate in math and potentially use the
course as a springboard to school-approved
acceleration in their respective school math programs.
Students should have completed Pre-Algebra
prior to enrollment in this class or have been in a
rigorous grade 6 math course.
(Note: St. Christopher’s Middle School students who
wish to accelerate in math must pass a comprehensive
final test at the end of this course in July in order to be
approved for acceleration in grades 7 or 8.)

approval from the Upper School Math Department
Chairman to take this course.
Bridging the Gap: Upper School
Spanish Preparatory Course

Description: Although the course will be tailored
to the specific needs of the enrolled students, the
instructor will review key grammar concepts
covered in Spanish 1. This course is recommended
for students retaking Spanish 1 after the 8th or
9th grade or who would benefit from a review
before starting Spanish 2, as well as for students
who are new to St. Christopher’s and St. Catherine’s
that do not have a solid Spanish background. The
course will involve reading and writing skills, but the
primary focus will be on improving interactional
skills (i.e., listening and speaking). This class will
not be confined to the classroom; we will branch
out into the larger community and learn by
doing, whenever possible.
Biblical Studies

Description: This course fulfills St. Christopher’s
Biblical Studies requirement for 10th grade. All
boys must take this course, as well as an upper
level religion course in their junior or senior year,
to complete their religion credit and graduate.
Taking Biblical Studies over the summer will
allow 10th graders some free time during the
coming year. Using the gospel of Mark as a lens,
this course critically examines the life of Christ.
The Roots of Religious Faith

Description: In this course we will explore the
long fought debate between those who proclaim
faith in God and those who deny it. We will focus
primarily on God from Jewish and Christian
perspectives and study the reasons behind people’s
belief in God. We will also examine whether science
and religion are truly mortal enemies after all.
One fundamental question that will arise
throughout the course is, “Can you believe it?”
