Indoor back-to-back

Seniors step forward to boost effort.
FULL RESULTS

The indoor track & field team won its second state VISAA title in a row Saturday, February 15, outpacing Woodberry Forest for the crown.

Fittingly, it was a group of seniors that turned the tide and gave the Saints the momentum they needed to bring home the hardware.

"You can give this one to the seniors," state coach of the year Marshall Ware said. "We came out of the field events pretty even and the next three races [the seniors] sort of set the tone.

"We won the 4x8. We won the hurdles. We won the 55 with [senior] Addison [Gosline]...It was great."

Two seniors, Matthew Noble and Dougie Boardman, teamed up with Noah Smith '27 and Asher Green '26 to run 8:22 and capture first place in the 3200-meter relay. Then senior captain Jayden Brown delivered the 55 hurdles crown in 7.85 with fellow senior captain Durham Dodson third (7.92), setting up Gosline (also a captain) to nip the field in the 55 in 6.54, just ahead of StC's Maddox White '26, who got third in 6.55.

Speaking of White, he had a fabulous meet, ripping off a 35.75 for the 300 crown, and running the anchor leg of the school- and meet-record setting 4x200 team. Will Ackerly '27, Jaerron Johnson '27 and Elisha Asare '26 joined White stamping a 1:30.77 run to beat Woodberry, who also beat the previous meet record in 1:30.86.

The aforementioned field-event performance was led by Victor Olesen '26. He erased his pole vault meet record from 2024 with a vault of 17-3, nearly a full foot better than a year ago.

Senior Henry Rice got fourth in the triple jump, 6th in long jump - supporting third-place George Julias '26 and fourth-place Gosline - and got 5th in high jump, a slot behind senior captain Ford Hunter. Senior Grayson Herndon got a bronze in shot put, supported by junior Walter Cart's fourth-place throw.

"I'm so happy for the seniors," Ware said. "They got the job done."
