Tennis wins 2021 VISAA title

Back-to-back state titles for the program.
The varsity tennis team completed perhaps the most dominant season in recent memory, knocking off Collegiate 5-2 Saturday at StC's Tennis complex for the VISAA title, its second in a row.

The Saints also won the crown in 2019. There was no tourney in 2020.

The Cougars, seeded second, came out fired up and took the first game from a bunch of singles matches, rattling some of the top-seeded Saints. But about halfway through the matches, the Saints' top four seeds (Will Thompson '22, Talman Ramsey '21, Brendon Engel '23 and Evan Fisher '23) found their footing.

Thompson won 10-2, Ramsey and Engel 10-4 and Fisher 10-8 as the Saints held a firm 4-0 lead.

The game Cougars forced the match into doubles, getting wins at #5 (10-6) and #6 (10-8).

It only delayed the inevitable.

No. 1 and 2 doubles dominated their matches and both had won 9 games, before fittingly the Sewanee commit and senior Ramsey, and Thompson won their doubles match and completed the victory for the unbeaten Saints.

The group finished 12-0 and didn't drop more than two team points in any match this season. The future is bright as everyone is back except for senior Ramsey.
