Varsity Soccer Sweeps Weekend Pair

Over the weekend of October 20, varsity soccer won both of their matches. With the season winding down, they've found their form late in the year and are pushing for a bye in the VISAA tournament. With the two wins, they've moved to 8-3-3 on the year and 3-0-0 in the league.

On Friday, the 18th, they made the long drive down to Norfolk. Things were not going well early, as they had a man sent off in the 12th minute. Even playing with a man down, they put together an incredible defensive performance and kept Norfolk Academy off the scoresheet. In the 80th minute, Max Mumford '25 fired a rocket from outside of the box into the top right corner off of a Sutton Olesen '26 assist, giving the Saints a 1-0 lead late in the match. The score remained right there, and they left with an impressive 1-0 win.

After driving back up to Richmond, they had a quick turnaround before their 10 AM Saturday matchup with Benedictine on the road. They lost to the Cadets at home this season, but they took a comfortable 3-0 win on the road. Lukas Gordinier '26, Steven Bishara '25, and Jack Bleecher '25 all scored in the first half to get the Saints out to a running start, and the score did not change out of the break.

As the season has gone on, the Saints have found their footing and began to play very well. They have won five of their last six matches, and the only match they didn't win was a 1-1 draw against Cape Henry on October 7 where they played very well against one of their toughest opponents. They have taken all nine of the possible points available to them so far in the Prep League and are pushing for the title. They have two more matches, one against Collegiate and one against Woodberry. The Collegiate match is the crucial one, and it is also their next match. The two teams will enter City Stadium on Monday, October 21 at 6:30 PM level on points with two matches remaining for each team, and a victory for either side would allow them to control their own destiny for the Prep League title.
