Saints Withstand Steward

by Edison Pellumbi '25
Coming off a tough 70-62 defeat on the road against STAB, the Saints once again played away from home, this time taking on Steward.

Early on in the game, neither team was able to get much going offensively.  Darius Gray '26 shouldered much of the offensive load in the first half, scoring more than half of the Saints' 24 points they had at the break.  Going into the second half, some hot shooting from Steward at the end of the second quarter put the Saints down 27-24.

The third quarter was once again very low scoring, much of that due to senior Brandon Jennings' efforts defensively.  In the quarter, he posted multiple blocks, a steal and deflected numerous passes.  Going into the 4th, the two teams still could not be separated, with the score locked at 34-34.

Steward struck first in the fourth, hitting a three to gain a 37-34 advantage.  From there, the Saints commanded the game.  They went on a 16-0 run, highlighted by two and-ones from Sonny Bridges '25 and Jennings.  Steward did not score for nearly seven minutes, and the Saints ended up taking a 50-44 win after some last-ditch efforts from the Spartans.

With the win, the Saints moved to 14-4.  Their next action is on Tuesday, January 23 when they take on Fork Union at home at 6 pm.
